The Former Finance Minister, Tendai Biti has won a case against the 2% transaction tax which was introduced by government in 2018. The SI 205/2018 has been nullified by the High Court Judge Justice Zhou today.
The news was shared by Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights on their Twitter Handle just after the judgment was announced.
SI 205/2018 which was gazetted in October 2018 is a statutory instrument that made it legal for the government to charge 2% tax for all Electronic transactions,
This new legislation has been a contentious issue amongst many Zimbabweans who felt the tax was robbing them of their hard-earned money.
